Kerridge - White Nancy, Teggs Nose
A bright blue sky day in between dull rainy days. Great walk, in spit of slipping in the mud,  finishing off with a hotpot supper at the Bulls Head in Kerridge. I wouldn't normally choose a hotpot but this was good and the normal menu looked interesting too.

Delamere 8m officially, though probably a bit less

This was a good walk to do after another long break as it lacked any thing significant in the way of hills!

Styal 5ish m  Trafford group

A gentle walk mainly through lovely woodland that finished with a picnic in the grounds of Styal Mill.

As we waited for the group to come back together I noticed that an embroidery exhibition was being advertised. As the cars were parked only a short distance away I went back at the end of the walk to take a look at the work of Louise Gardiner She is obviously an embroiderer with her attitude. I loved the movment and humour in her work.

11 May

I have been out since December, though only once or twice, but today (!) marks a determined effort to get back into the grove.

We caught the train to Chester which turned out to very useful as it was a warm day and most of the walk was in the open with little shade, so the chance of a drink before the return train was very useful!

8 December

Dunham Massey / Trans pennine Trail, Trafford group
A flat 7 ish mile walk with blue skies and ice underfoot almost all day, but then temperatures remained below 0 all day too!  Hot soup for lunch at the Stables in Dunham was inspired! Needless to say it was toocold for photos.

10 November

Teggs Nose Country Park, Trafford group

Another walk that seemed to grow as we walked, advertised as 6.5 miles it seemed a reasonable length after the break, I can't believe that I've not been out since September. Our leader soon confessed that it would be 7.5 miles, it seemed longer but perhaps that was the 1600' of ascent or just my lack of fitness, which I certainly felt! It was chilly when we stopped or were out of the sun but the skies were blue, the views excellent and the company good. What more could you want from a walk?

29 September 2010

Marple, Trafford group

9 / 9.5 / 10 / 10.5 ? miles This walk grew longer as the day progressed, and it rained, a little before lunch and a lot after lunch, but it was a good walk!

Delamere Forest, SJ541715, Trafford group

6.5 - 7?  miles at a good pace on a warm day - 20 degrees after lunch!  The view from OldPale heights of seven counties didn't liveup to it's name due to the haze but was still impressive. I've tried to find out more about the stone markers representing the counties but for once Google isn't coming up with much information!
